Anna Nicole: The Opera

Anna Nicole Smith’s life is being turned into, of all things, an opera.

The controversial Playboy model and reality TV star died in 2007 after an accidental overdose of prescription drugs aged just 39-years-old. And this, and the rest of her controversial life apparently forms the basis for an opera entitled Anna Nicole that has been written by composer Mark-Anthony and will be shown at the Royal Opera House in London.

The composer is the same man who created the controversial Jerry Springer: The Opera, based on the outspoken talk show host and his shocking guests.

Anna Nicole will debut at the esteemed venue on 17 February next year, with the role of Anna being played by Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek.

The Royal Opera House said the premiere would be "a major event in the UK arts calendar".

The exact details of the opera’s storyline have not been unveiled, but Anna Nicole led a very colourful life right up until her untimely death. Starting as a stripper, she went on to marry oil baron J. Howard Marshall when he was 89 and she was 26 and went on to fight for his estate in the courts following his death. The year before her own death, her 20-year-old son Daniel died of a drugs overdose, just three days after Anna Nicole had given birth to her second child, daughter Dannielynn.

In a strange way an opera makes sense as its perhaps the only medium that could capture the melodrama of Anna’s life!
